Moments of Prayer
Ever since it was built in the 12th Century, the purpose of Wymondham Abbey has been the worship of Almighty God. We meet with each other and with God in the Abbey every day of the year and everyone is welcome.
The Prayer Station in the south aisle is a place for quiet reflection. Hang a prayer for a loved one on the Prayer Tree and we will offer up your prayer the following Monday at Morning Prayer.
This daily offering of praise and thanks to God in worship draws us together with Christians throughout the world, and equips us to serve God’s people on earth, the treasure which Christ Himself entrusted to His Church.
Daily services are complemented by special services around festival days throughout the year. You are most welcome to join us. Occasionally the times of our services may need to change, so please check our Calendar of Services before setting out.
Details of all our services are below:
-
Daily
The daily pattern of worship begins the day with Morning Prayer at 10 am, and ends with Evening Prayer at 3pm (during winter). These short services are held in the Lady Chapel.
-
Weekly
The Holy Eucharist is offered as our main act of worship on Sundays and at least once during each week (usually 10.30 am on Wednesdays), reflecting Christ’s command “Do this in remembrance of me”. We seek to reflect a pattern of prayer and welcome based on the original Benedictine Foundation of the Abbey Community where “all are welcomed as Christ”.
